Arvel Bird

Arvel-Bird

Classically trained as a violinist, Arvel Bird’s compositions and performances encompass an extraordinary love of diversity—from traditional Native American flute music to his original more contemporary blend of violin and flute Native American and Celtic orchestrations. His is performances have been called “Braveheart Meets Last of the Mohicans … at Woodstock” and “Lord of the Strings” by the media…

He performs at a variety of venues from music festivals to…

concert halls as a guest artist featuring his original music with symphonies and string orchestras to festival performances as a duo or his band with Native American dancers, where the audience gets a glimpse into his Native American heart and Scottish soul.

His touring schedule has taken him to Scotland, England, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and in prestigious North American locations including the SkyDome in Toronto, Ontario, Smithsonian Museums in DC and NY, Hochstein Performance Hall in Rochester, NY and the Kennedy Space Center in Cocoa, FL — with symphonies, chamber orchestras, large festivals and more, logging over 500,000 road miles.

Bird’s first private violin teacher in Salt Lake City, UT encouraged him to play from his soul. Prophetically, she told him, “Arvel, no one will remember if you’re the best or the fastest, but they will remember your passion.” His next most influential violin teacher was the Hungarian Maestro Paul Rolland in Champagne-Urbana, IL, whom Bird credits with perfecting his performance technique.

For the next few years, Bird followed the music throughout the Midwest. In 1986 he returned to Arizona and played with Glen Campbell with whom he toured for the next six years. Between 1991 and 2004 he lived in Nashville, TN and continued touring with Campbell, later adding tours with Loretta Lynn, Tom T. Hall, Ray Price, Louise Mandrell, Clay Walker and others.

Five of Bird’s releases have earned him several music awards such as Best Instrumental, Best Traditional Instrumental, Best Producer / Engineer, Artist of the Year; and receiving many other nominations.

The prestigious Cowboy and Indian Magazine’s recently named Arvel as one of their top 4 favorite Native American musicians, alongside RC Nakai and Buffy Sainte Marie.

While enjoying the life of concerts and festivals, Bird is also active in community outreach projects for local school assemblies, churches, community centers, and social clubs where he facilitates a variety of music and spiritual workshops and concerts.

Based in Arizona, Bird continues to reach fans the old-fashioned way . . . LIVE!
