“Being Spiritually Tested”

Have you ever felt that you were being spiritually tested? It is not uncommon for a person to sense that they are being put to the test spiritually by a divine power, or God. As in blaming one’s karma for making something happen, so too, for many, being spiritually tested seems to offer a rational explanation for an occurrence in their lives.

Given a broad definition of spiritual testing, there is no doubt that everyone is tested—perhaps many times during the course of their life. And given that God created human life, then God created the human psyche to be involved in the experience of testing. Testing is indeed of great importance, for it allows you to evaluate yourself.

“The Sacredness of Silence”

There’s a Mystical expression that goes, “He who speaks more knows less, and he who speaks less knows more.”  If one encounters religious zealots, they are very likely to speak at great length and volume about their beliefs.  A person who is advanced in spiritual awareness knows to remain silent and let the zealot ramble on.  With awareness, one knows that to try to enlighten such a person at that level of awareness would do no good.  It would only end in a meaningless debate.  There’s nothing to be gained.  It is better to remain silent, being content to know that in some future lifetime every zealot will awaken to a much greater realization of spiritual truth.

All who have studied deeper forms of meditation—for the purpose of experiencing mystical union with God—do all they can to enter into the Silence of the Absolute.  Only when the mind can be totally quieted can Absolute Presence be known.  As long as thinking occupies the mind, God cannot.  Thoughts and thinking are all activities of the false sense of personal ego identity.  Even those thoughts that dwell on God are still part of personal ego consciousness.  As long as the personal ego is active—even in the loftiest of ways—God’s Presence remains unknown.

“The Reality of Choice”

As you live your life every day, always realize that life exists on many levels. What we see and perceive to be real on an outer physical level is but the outer shadow of a far greater reality at work. This applies to both the outer appearance of good, as well as that which—when carried to an extreme—one perceives to be evil. Both heaven and hell exist in the human psyche. The spiritually aware person is aware of the dualistic warfare taking place within and needs to make a choice. Either the personal ego is in charge, which leans the mind and soul towards the dark side, or the personal ego is set aside in favor of the Light of God’s indwelling reality.

If the truth be truly known, it is not a matter of personal choice as most people of any faith believe; instead, the Choice is God’s. When a soul has reached a point in reawakening to God’s Presence, it is God that makes the Choice. The personal ego has nothing to do with it, for the personal ego would do everything it could to retain power.
