Dr. Randy Okpara Danjuma, Ph.D

“Twenty-two, I became anew. Talking about my rebirth, I became anew.” At age twenty-two, I underwent a profound spiritual experience. Visceral, confusion, unbeknownst to me, a Dark Night of the Soul overwhelms. The phenomenon engulfs my total being. Yet, the four- to six-month ordeal totally transforms me. I come to understand that the key to life exists in the head.
Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, religion saturates my environment. Catholicism in New Orleans, the state’s religion, dominates religious culture. Protestant, a close second, prop up Fire, and brimstone, sermonizing preachers. A consistent undercurrent, Earth-Based, and African spirituality, persists. In some form, I sample all of them. Moreover, I live with the best ‘living room preacher’, east or west of the Mississippi, my mother. These influences inform spiritual life.
From New Orleans to Southern California, my life’s journey expands in several directions. I re-enter college and graduate with a B.A. in Political Science. Marriage, professional life, and exposure to various cultures. Personal life, ups and downs, mandate change. I moved to the Oakland/San Francisco Bay Area.
New Orleans sustains my cultural roots and community/family values. It also serves as my spiritual grounding. The Bay Area, my second home, deepens and expands my humanity. I became a father in Oakland. Professional endeavors widen. Community/social services, college teaching, and writing dovetail with academic pursuits. I earned a
Mid-fifties, I develop a substance abuse problem. Eventually, the disease leads to a heart attack. Through Divine intervention-spontaneous remission. The process engenders, ego-death. Unfortunately, health neglect results in Glaucoma. Legally blind, I lose eighty percent of my eyesight.
2023, I enroll at the University of Metaphysics, Ph.D. program, earning a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Metaphysical Science from the University of Metpahysics and in 2025, I earn a Ph.D. in Metaphysics-Ancestral Healing. Currently, I use the performing arts as my ‘ministry’ vehicle.
